Most Bendigo customers come to us one of two ways — a pile of branches from a weekend DIY prune or a fallen limb, or a landscaping job that needs cubic metres of mulch on the ground before planting begins. The chipper handles the first situation, the tipper handles the second, and if the timing works we can do both in the same visit.

For on-site chipping, we bring the machine to the property and run anything up to about 200mm diameter through it. That takes care of prunings from self-managed ornamentals, branches from a storm-dropped limb, or green waste left over after a block tidy-up. The chip pile stays on your property for you to use as garden mulch, or we load it out and take it away. Both options are faster and cheaper than running trailer loads to the transfer station, particularly for larger volumes.

For bulk mulch delivery we carry three main lines. Fresh hardwood chip comes off our own removals, mostly ironbark, red gum and yellow box — dense, long-lasting, good for weed suppression around established trees and along paths. Aged composted mulch has had months in a heap to break down, making it fine enough for garden beds and new plantings where fresh chip would temporarily lock up soil nitrogen. Dyed landscape mulch in red or black suits formal front yards where appearance is part of the job. Delivery is by the cubic metre, tipped to the driveway across Bendigo.

Mulching & Wood Chipping FAQs

What size branches can the chipper handle?

Up to around 200mm diameter in one pass, which covers most prunings and storm material. Anything larger we cut into sections first and put the smaller pieces through the machine. Trunk sections over that size are generally cut into rounds and either stacked for firewood or quoted as a haulage line if you want them off the block.

What is the difference between fresh chip and aged mulch?

Fresh chip comes straight from the chipper after a removal — mostly hardwood from local ironbark, red gum and box trees. It holds moisture well, suppresses weeds hard, and is best around established plants and along paths. Aged mulch has broken down over several months, it is softer, darker, and does not temporarily tie up soil nitrogen the way fresh chip does, making it safe around garden beds and seedlings.

How much mulch do I need to order?

For a 75 to 100mm layer, one cubic metre covers roughly 10 to 13 square metres of garden bed. Measure the bed length by width, multiply, then divide by 11 for a rough cubic-metre figure. Ring through the dimensions when you enquire and we will work it out so you are not left with surplus mulch sitting in the driveway.

Can the mulch be delivered and spread across Bendigo?

Yes. Standard delivery is a tipper drop to wherever the truck can sit on the driveway. If spreading is needed — raking mulch across beds rather than wheelbarrowing — add that to the quote and the crew handles it before leaving. Useful for larger beds, older properties, or jobs where getting the mulch to the back of the block yourself is not practical.
